Help Expand Health Care in Oregon this week.

Help Expand Health Care in Oregon (from Oregon Foodbank)

Yesterday the Oregon House of Representatives passed legislation to expand health care.  This was an important and exciting moment.

Currently there are over 600,000 Oregonians without access to health care.  The recently passed health care expansion will cover an additional 80,000 children and 35,000 adults.  It is a step forward in providing Oregonians with affordable access to health care.

Later this week the Senate will be voting on this bill.  Your Senator needs to hear that it is important that they pass this critical legislation.

Hunger is intimately connected with adequate and affordable health care. Oregon Food Bank's most recent Hunger Factors Survey revealed that 41% of adults and 24% of children in surveyed households had no health insurance, 56% reported medical/hospital debts, and 58% had delayed medical care.

This is the time for health care reform.  It is the right thing for the economy and it is the right thing for Oregon families.

Please email or call your state senator today.  Let them know that they need to support HB 2116.

BlueDog shills for big biz

Dem Senator Mark Haas of Beaverton has refused to support tax increases on business to cover the disasterous Oregon budget deficit. It is long since time the businesses that benefit from services pay their share of taxes. Whoever will challenge Haas in the next primary will get my support and campaign $$. According to the November 2007 article in the Oregonian when Haas was appointed to the senate he " said he was happy in the private sector."

It is time Haas was  sent back to the private sector (or across the aisle where he belongs).
